The 1984 album cover is inspired by Victor Vasarely, a French artist considered as father of optical art. His visual universe, made of geometric shapes and vibrant colors, evokes a psychedelic aesthetic that marked the 1960s and 1970s. The album Space Oddity, released in 1969 in the United Kingdom, is the one that associates music with Victor Vasarely : On the original cover, we can see the face of David Bowie superimposed on an optical work by Vasarely, from his series Planetary Folklore :

Although there is no direct evidence that English street artist Banksy was explicitly inspired by the film " Red Balloon " when creating his 2002 work named "Girl with Balloon," visual and thematic similarities have often been noted by critics and art enthusiasts : the contrast between the bright red of the balloon and a duller environment (greyish Paris in the film, greyish londoner walls with painting) produces a strong emotional impact :

RED BALLOON, a silent film set in the working-class neighborhood of Ménilmontant, in the 20th District of East Paris : in the first scene of the video, French singer Renaud appears as a child dressed in red. Renaud would later become one of the key representative voices of working-class neighborhoods of Paris. His first album cover reminds the character of Gavroche in novel " The miserable  " by French writer Victor Hugo. An universe and thematics depicted by singer Renaud that it already finds in 1900 novel " l'Assommoir " by  French writer Emile Zola, in Ménilmontant story based :

His friend, Joao Gilberto, delved into Italian music by covering the worldwide hit "Estate" of Bruno Martino, an italian pianist from Rome. The same goes for the italo-french jazzman Michel Petrucciani and american trumpeter Chet Baker who also did a cover :

Antonio Carlos Jobim brought a unique atmosphere to film music, blending softness and Brazilian sophistication. In 1962, he collaborated with Italian director Stefano Vanzina on Copacabana Palace italian film. In the 1980s, Jobim also contributed to the soundtrack of the brazilian film Gabriela, alongside Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni, who performed one of his songs. These collaborations demonstrate Jobim's international influence, as he was able to merge the Italian and Brazilian cinematic worlds :
